This Chester County Armory listing is for an all-original, German-made WW1 era D.W.M. MG 08 8mm Mauser fully transferable belt-fed heavy machine gun.
This historical, C&R eligible Maschinegewehr 08 (MG 08) was originally made in 1918 in Berlin, Germany by D.W.M. It features all matching serial numbers on the receiver, barrel, and incidental parts. This amazing, water-cooled specimen is being offered as a complete package with all of the accessories pictured, including: an original Emil Busch A.G. ZF12 optical prism sight, an original WW1 era German sled mount, cloth belts with ammunition can, and an original water can.
The weapon itself is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition. The original bluing is in stupendous condition for a weapon that is 100+ years old, with only minor handling and wear marks on the rough edges. The metalwork is in fantastic condition with no corrosion, cracks, gouges, malformations, etc. Overall finish is roughly 97%, with only minor wear and handling marks noted. There are some minor dings in the metal to be noted on the barrel shroud, but nothing that would be any cause for concern, and nothing that penetrates the bluing of the metal. This is an original production gun, and is not a side plate, reweld, or reactivated DEWAT.
The sled itself is in excellent functional condition, but does not some cosmetic flaws in the painted finish, as well as some minor corrosion marks on the unfinished tools. The included prism sight is also in excellent mechanical condition, with only minor, period-correct cosmetic marks in the finish. The small pieces of leather that make up the end cap and eye piece are intact, but have no malleability left, and for all intents and purposes are without flex.
This all-original, German-production, C&R eligible, belt-fed heavy machine gun is currently on a Form 3.
