Description
Looking for a .22LR pistol that feels like a duty weapon but won’t break the bank on ammo? You’ve found it. The SIG Sauer P322 is the trainer and plinker that bridges the gap between rimfire fun and centerfire discipline, and right now, it’s priced to move.

Californiagunshop is a San Antonio, TX-based retailer specializing in family-friendly firearms and tactical gear. The SIG Sauer P322 is a polymer-framed, striker-fired .22LR pistol designed for high-volume, low-cost training and recreational shooting. Its 20+1 round capacity and optics-ready slide set it apart from most rimfire handguns. In stock and ready to ship today for $361.33 (regularly $419.99).
Why the P322 is My Top Pick for Family & Training
After building and testing hundreds of pistols, I see the P322 for what it is: a gateway. It’s the tool I use to introduce new shooters—my own kids included—to the fundamentals of grip, sight alignment, and trigger control without the intimidation or cost of a larger caliber. The ergonomics mimic SIG’s centerfire P320 series, making it a phenomenal, cost-effective training aid. The high capacity means less time fumbling with magazines and more time on the range building muscle memory. In competitive shooting circles, it’s becoming a favorite for rimfire steel challenge events because of its reliability and magazine capacity.

The P322 occupies a sweet spot. It avoids the questionable longevity of the cheapest imports while offering modern features (optics-ready, high-capacity) that many premium target pistols lack. You’re paying for SIG’s engineering and reliability, not just a name.
The Honest Pros & Cons
What I love about it:
- ✅ 20+1 Round Capacity: Doubles the standard .22LR pistol capacity. The P322 magazine is a game-changer for training sessions.
- ✅ Optics-Ready Slide: Comes milled for a red dot (RMSc footprint). Adding a sight is a 5-minute job, not a $200 gunsmithing bill.
- ✅ Fantastic Trigger: For a striker-fired .22, it’s surprisingly crisp with a clean break. It teaches good habits.
- ✅ Easy to Maintain: Field strips almost identically to a SIG P320. Cleaning the P322 is straightforward for any skill level.
- ✅ Ambi Controls & Loaded Chamber Indicator: Great for left-handed shooters and adds a layer of safety for beginners.
A few things to know:
- ❌ Magazines are Proprietary: You’ll need specific P322 magazines. They’re fantastic, but you can’t use anything else. (We stock them if you need extras).
- ❌ Prefers High-Velocity Ammo: For absolute reliability in cycling, stick with 40-grain high-velocity rounds, especially during break-in. Standard velocity can sometimes be less reliable.
- ❌ Polymer Frame Feel: If you’re used to an all-steel target pistol, the lighter polymer frame feels different. It’s a trade-off for the weight and cost.
Who This Pistol Is For (And Who Should Look Elsewhere)
Buy the P322 if:
- You’re a new shooter or teaching your family. The low recoil and high capacity are ideal for learning.
- You own a SIG P320 (or similar striker-fired pistol) and want an affordable, ballistically-similar trainer.
- You’re a recreational plinker or steel challenge shooter who wants more shots between reloads.
- You want to practice fundamentals or introduce a red dot sight without spending a fortune on 9mm ammo.
Consider another option if:
- You need a dedicated, ultra-precise bullseye target pistol. Look at our target pistol section for options with longer barrels and adjustable triggers.
- You want a .22LR pistol that will cycle absolutely anything, including sub-sonic ammo. Some revolvers or bolt-actions handle that better.
- Your primary goal is deep concealment. The P322 is compact but not micro-compact. For that role, check our concealed carry category.
Common Questions & Concerns (From My Customers)
“Is it reliable with cheap ammo?” After the initial 200-300 round break-in with high-velocity rounds, mine runs great on bulk pack ammo. Start hot, then experiment. Keep it reasonably clean.
“Can I dry-fire it?” Yes. SIG states the P322 is safe for dry-fire, but using a snap cap is always a good practice for any firearm.
“Is the P322 comp version worth it?” The compensated model (P322 COMP) reduces muzzle flip slightly. For most new shooters and trainers, the standard model is the better value. The comp is for those chasing split times in competition.
Your P322 Questions Answered
How do I clean the P322?
Field strip it by locking the slide back, rotating the takedown lever, and easing the slide forward off the frame. Clean the barrel, slide, and breech face with a .22 caliber brush and solvent. Wipe down the frame and lightly oil the slide rails and barrel hood. Reassemble in reverse order. I recommend cleaning every 500 rounds or so with .22LR.
How do I disassemble the P322 for cleaning?
Ensure the pistol is unloaded. Lock the slide to the rear and visually inspect the chamber. Rotate the takedown lever (above the trigger on the left side) down 90 degrees. Ease the slide forward and off the front of the frame rails. The recoil spring assembly and barrel can then be lifted out of the slide. That’s full field-strip; no further disassembly is needed for routine cleaning.
How do I load the P322 magazine?
Use the included magazine loader—it makes life much easier. Place the loader over the magazine follower, insert a round into the loader’s slot, and push down and back. Repeat. Without the loader, you’ll need to depress the follower with your thumb to slide each round in under the feed lips. Loading the last few rounds by hand can be stiff.
How do I disassemble a P322 magazine for cleaning?
I don’t recommend full disassembly of the P322 magazine unless necessary, as the spring is under tension. For cleaning, simply spray a light degreaser like CLP into the magazine body through the feed lips, shake it out, and let it dry. If you must disassemble, use a punch to depress the locking plate on the magazine floorplate through the small hole, then slide the floorplate off carefully, controlling the spring.
What’s the best way to load the P322 pistol itself?
Insert a loaded magazine firmly until it clicks. To chamber a round, you can either “sling-shot” the slide (pull fully rearward and release) or use the slide release lever. Because .22LR is rimfire, I recommend sling-shotting for the first round to ensure positive feeding. Always keep the muzzle in a safe direction.
Is the P322 the same as the P3227-LVE?
The “P3227-LVE” is a specific SKU or model designation used by some distributors. It refers to the same standard P322 pistol we sell. The core pistol—P322 Sig Sauer—is identical regardless of the distributor suffix on the SKU.

I don’t write reviews often but Californiagunshop deserves one. The P322 is exactly what I was looking for. Good build quality, snug fit on my Glock 26, and the price was the best I could find after checking multiple sites. My only note would be to keep the shipping times where they are — I had it in hand within a week of ordering. Will be a repeat customer.

Bought this as part of a larger build project. Californiagunshop had the best price by a decent margin and shipping was fast. The P322 itself is well-made — Better than expected at this price. Overall this is exactly what I needed. Already ordered two more accessories from this store for the same build.
