Description

This Chester County Armory listing is for a beautiful condition Sturm Ruger AC-556 .223REM 4-position Select Fire transferable machine gun.

One of the few factory-made 4-position (safe, semi-auto, three round burst, and full-auto) machine guns made in the US, the Ruger AC-556 is still one of the more desired full-auto weapons available at a reasonable NFA price tag left on the US transferable market. Designed and built like all of Ruger’s weapons (robust, with exceptional functionality), Bill Ruger’s soiree into Class 3 weapons with the AC-556 was no different. Designed in 1979 based off the semi-auto Mini-14 that he (along with Jim Sullivan) created 6 years earlier as a scaled down version of the venerable M14 rifle, Ruger created a workhouse of gun, utilizing new manufacturing and engineering techniques to build a robust weapon that would be affordable to produce without sacrificing durability in any way, namely creation of a strong, investment cast receiver that was heat treated to withstand even the harshest of punishment. This particular model was features Ruger’s 18″ Government profile barrel with bayonet lug and flash hider and also displays a fixed rifle stock.

This factory-made and registered machine gun is in excellent overall condition. The internal mechanics and the interior metalwork are absolutely fantastic, with no dings, dents, cracks, scratches, malformations, etc.. The internals on this weapon appear like-new, with very little, if any rounds fired through it. The barrel is clean, bright, and shiny, with exceptionally crisp rifling. The bolt mechanism shows no firing wear, outside of normal racking and clearing marks inherent in the production and safety operation of the weapon. Cosmetically, this weapon denotes only one small mark in the exterior metalwork on the right side of the receiver at the rear sight (see photos). The original wooden birch stock does note some minor surface scratches and a small chip on the left side of the stock above the trigger guard, as well as small discoloration mark underneath the front of the stock from rack storage. It appears this weapon has been more of a safe-queen over the years, and has appropriate wear markings from storage more than it does from actual use.

This factory model will come with its original, factory serial numbered box, as well as its original factory manual and an original 30rd Ruger-marked factory magazine. The manual is in exceptional, like-new condition, with a stiff backing, and not so much as a fold in a page.

This transferable machine gun is currently on a Form 3 for quick and easy transfer with “Sturm Ruger” listed as the manufacturer and “AC-556” listed as the model.
