FN 502 Tactical 22 LR 4 6 IN Threaded Barrel FDE

About this product

The FN 502 Tactical is FN America's optics-ready .22 LR training pistol, built to mirror the size, weight, and controls of a duty-size centerfire handgun so shooters can put in cheap rimfire trigger time without losing the feel of their carry or duty gun. This listing is the FDE (flat dark earth) finish with the 4.6-inch threaded barrel.

What makes the 502 Tactical different from a typical .22 plinker?

FN built the 502 Tactical as, by their account, the first slide-mounted, optics-ready rimfire handgun — meaning the red dot mounts directly to the slide rather than sitting on a fixed frame-mounted plate, so the dot tracks with the slide the same way it would on a centerfire duty pistol. It ships with an interchangeable optics plate system and factory suppressor-height sights that co-witness through most mini red dots, which matters if you're using this gun to practice red-dot transitions and follow-through before taking those skills to a centerfire pistol.

What are the key specs?

The 502 Tactical runs a single-action hammer-fired system rather than a striker, with a 4.6-inch threaded barrel (1/2x28, standard for rimfire suppressor hosts) and an overall length of about 7.6 inches. Height runs roughly 5.8 inches and width about 1.4 inches, with an unloaded weight around 23.7 ounces. Magazine capacity is 10+1 in restricted-capacity configurations or 15+1 with a standard magazine, and the grip is polymer with an aggressive texture pattern similar to FN's centerfire 509 line.

Because it's chambered in .22 LR, ammunition costs and recoil are both dramatically lower than a centerfire duty pistol, which is the entire point — this gun is meant to get more trigger pulls and more dot-tracking reps per range trip for a fraction of the ammo cost, not to serve as a primary defensive sidearm.

Who should buy the FN 502 Tactical?

This is the right pick for shooters who already run FN's centerfire duty pistols (or a similarly-sized 9mm) and want a rimfire trainer that mimics their manual of arms, sight picture, and optic footprint. It's also a strong choice for anyone building red-dot skills from scratch, new shooters who want a lightweight-recoil handgun to build fundamentals, or competitive shooters practicing dry-fire-adjacent drills at live-fire cost. The threaded barrel also makes it a popular host for a rimfire suppressor, where legal, since suppressed .22 LR is about as quiet as shooting gets.

Because this is a firearm, it cannot ship to your home address. It transfers to a licensed FFL dealer near you, where you'll complete a background check and the required paperwork in person before taking possession. California buyers should confirm current state compliance — including any magazine capacity restrictions and roster requirements — with their FFL before ordering, since state rules for handguns differ from federal requirements and can change.

Because ammunition costs so little per round in .22 LR compared to any centerfire caliber, owners of the 502 Tactical generally shoot it far more often than they would a centerfire duty pistol, which is exactly the point of a dedicated trainer. More trigger time at lower cost translates directly into better fundamentals — grip, trigger press, and follow-through — that carry over when you pick up your carry or duty gun. The suppressor-height sights also mean you don't lose a usable sight picture if you add a can to the threaded barrel down the road.
