This Chester County Armory listing is for an original German S&H Maxim 08/15 8mm Mauser transferable C&R eligible machine gun.

Adapted as a more portable field version of the Maxim 08, this amazing example of a Maxim 08/15 was made by S&H in Berlin. One of the stalwarts of World War I, in what has become known as “the machine gun war,” the receiver top is marked 1918 and all serial numbers, including the original wooden stock, are matching.

This predecessor to the light machine gun family is in excellent overall condition, especially considering it is over 100 years old, now. The metalwork is in amazing condition, with its original finish still intact. While there certainly is handling and wear marks on the metal (especially at the sharp corner wear points) consistent with the age of this weapon, there are no dents, dings, gouges, malformations, etc., of any operational concern.

The wooden stock does note a small crack on the right side. However, there is no movement in the split and the stock is in its original condition, with no repair having been attempted. The pistol grip still notes fairly sharp detailing in the wood and only minor surface scratches and minor wear noted. The original olive drab green paint on the water tank is still visible in significant portions, however it is not in complete coverage of the tank. Spots where the paint is no longer present has patinaed nicely to a gray/brown finish, and does not note any exterior corrosion, whatsoever. The period correct bipod appears to have been refinished in the original green styling.

This model will come as pictured, with an original green German drum magazine and cloth belts. The current NFA Form 3 lists “Germany” as the manufacturer and “08/15” as the model.
