This Chester County Armory listing is for an extremely rare, factory original, museum-grade US Property marked GM Hydra-Matic M16A1 5.56mm fully transferable machine gun.
From 1968-to 1971, the Hydra-Matic Division of the General Motors Corporation contributed significantly to the Vietnam wartime production of M16s for the US military, by using their tooling and production knowledge to manufacture approximately 469,217 M16A1s for delivery. Less than a handful of these rifles made it onto the NFA registry as fully transferable versions.
This transferable machine gun is one of the few known examples available for civilian transfer. It is in excellent, museum-quality condition both mechanically and cosmetically, with only very minor handling marks noted on the exterior. The internals shows very limited wear markings, and is believed that this rifle has seen few if any, rounds fired outside of any original testing. All parts are original to the weapon, including the GM, manufactured bolt carrier group, with its distinct “wave” pattern noted in the finish.
In addition to the US Property markings on the receiver, it also proudly displays a white US Government acceptance stamp on the right side of the receiver. This stamp is in phenomenal condition, as well, with no deterioration exhibited outside of its original stamping, which is slightly less on the lower right side where it appears the stamp was not pressured as hard as the rest of the marker.
This rare model M16A1 also features SAFE, SEMI, and AUTO-marked fire controls and a 20″ barrel on the fixed A1 upper with the teardrop style forward assist. It also presents with original triangular handguards and its original A1 style buttstock and pistol grip.
This NFA registered and fully transferable machine gun is currently available on a Form 3 for easy transfer.
