Shadow Systems DR920L Elite Long Slide 9MM 171
About this product
The Shadow Systems DR920L Elite is the long-slide version of the company's full-size DR920 platform, built around a 5.31-inch match-grade, spiral-fluted barrel and a 17+1 round capacity in 9mm. It's aimed at shooters who want a longer sight radius and softer recoil impulse than a standard-length duty pistol offers.
What does the "L" add compared to the standard DR920?
The DR920L stretches the slide and barrel out to 5.31 inches, up from the standard DR920's shorter configuration, which lengthens the sight radius for more precise aiming and adds enough weight forward to help tame muzzle rise across strings of fire. The barrel itself is conventionally rifled, spiral fluted, and left unthreaded on this "Elite" configuration, with a match-grade chamber for tighter accuracy tolerances than a typical polymer-framed pistol.
How does the optics cut work on this slide?
Shadow Systems uses a patented optic cut that's designed to accommodate most major brands of red-dot sights mounted directly to the slide, without needing an intervening adapter plate — a genuine convenience if you already own an optic and don't want to buy or track down a specific plate. The slide also features front, rear, and top directional serrations along with window cuts and a thinned profile at the grasping points, aimed at making manipulation faster under stress or with wet or gloved hands.
What's the trigger and grip like?
The Elite trigger is a flat-faced, drop-safe aluminum design with a stated pull weight in the 4.5 to 5.0-pound range and a crisp, tactile reset — noticeably lighter and more deliberate-feeling than a typical striker-fired factory trigger. The frame includes interchangeable backstraps to adjust grip angle, along with an extended beavertail and an undercut trigger guard, both aimed at getting your hand as high and close to the bore axis as possible to reduce felt recoil.
Who is the DR920L Elite built for?
This pistol suits shooters who already like the Glock-pattern 9mm ecosystem (Shadow Systems pistols are built around Glock-compatible magazines and many aftermarket parts) but want a more refined trigger, ergonomics, and optics setup than a stock Glock offers — competition shooters, home-defense users who want a longer sight radius, and anyone building a red-dot-equipped duty or range gun.
How does the FFL process and California compliance work?
As a handgun, the DR920L Elite ships to a licensed FFL dealer for an in-person transfer and background check, never to a home address. Shadow Systems pistols' California roster status has varied by model and configuration over time, so California buyers should confirm this exact DR920L Elite configuration is currently roster-approved with their receiving FFL before ordering. Checkout is processed through secure checkout, with no stock-level, shipping-speed, or discount claims made on this listing.
Does it hold onto Glock magazine and holster compatibility?
Yes — Shadow Systems builds the DR920 family around Glock 17/34-pattern magazines and a Glock-compatible general footprint, so many holsters and magazines built for full-size Glock 9mm pistols will work with this frame, though the extended barrel length and unique slide profile mean you should double-check holster fit specifically for the DR920L rather than assuming a standard Glock 17 holster will work.
Is the unthreaded barrel a dealbreaker for suppressor use?
If running a suppressor is a priority, note that this Elite configuration ships with an unthreaded barrel, so you'd need a separate threaded barrel to add a can later. For shooters focused on the long sight radius, trigger, and optics setup rather than suppressor use, the unthreaded barrel is simply part of this particular Elite build rather than a limitation worth working around.
FFL transfer required
This item is a firearm and ships only to a licensed FFL dealer, never to a home address. At checkout, enter your preferred dealer as the shipping address, or leave it blank and we will assign a licensed dealer near you at no extra cost. You complete the background check and paperwork with the dealer when you pick up.
California buyers: handguns must be on the California roster for delivery to a California FFL, a Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) and DROS are handled at the dealer, and the 10-day waiting period applies. Out-of-state buyers receive the firearm through their own local FFL under their state's rules.
