Description

The Springfield Armory Echelon 4.0C 9mm 4″ optic-ready (2)15rd is a compact carry pistol that shrinks the full-size Echelon without cutting corners. Built around the serialized Central Operating Group, this 4-inch barreled 9mm delivers the same VIS optic system and tritium sights as its bigger brother, but in a frame made for everyday concealment. With two 15-round magazines included, you get standard capacity in a package that disappears under a cover garment.

Key Features

  • Variable Interface System (VIS) — Direct-mounts to over a dozen popular red-dot footprints without adapter plates. Why it matters: you mount your optic in minutes, not with a shim kit and a prayer.
  • 4″ Hammer-Forged Barrel — Shorter than the full-size but still long enough for full powder burn and reliable accuracy. Why it matters: you get full-size ballistics in a slide that hides easier.
  • Tritium U-Dot Front Sight — White front ring with tritium insert pairs with a tactical notch rear. Why it matters: low-light target acquisition is instant — no fumbling for a light switch.
  • Central Operating Group (COG) — Serialized chassis system that drops out of the frame for cleaning or customization. Why it matters: you can swap frames without an FFL, and deep cleaning takes minutes.
  • Two 15-Round Magazines — Standard capacity with steel body and polymer basepad. Why it matters: you get 15+1 on tap, and spares are affordable and easy to find.

Who It’s For

This is for the shooter who carries daily and wants a modern optic-ready compact that doesn’t require a second mortgage. If you’ve been running a G19 or P320 but want direct-mount simplicity and a lower bore axis, the Echelon 4.0C is worth your time. It’s also for the guy who trains with a full-size but needs something smaller for summer carry — same manual of arms, smaller package.

Pros & Cons

  • Pro: VIS optic system is genuinely tool-less — no plates, no filing, just attach and torque.
  • Pro: Trigger is clean with a short reset; breaks around 5.5–6 lbs out of the box.
  • Con: Aftermarket holster support is still ramping up — not as many options as Glock or Sig yet.
  • Con: The grip texture is aggressive; it locks in your hand but can chew up a bare belly if you carry AIWB without an undershirt.

FAQ

Which optics are directly compatible with the VIS system?

The VIS system directly mounts optics from Trijicon (RMR, SRO), Holosun (407C, 507C, 508T, 509T), Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, Shield RMS, and others. Per Springfield Armory, no adapter plates are needed for most popular footprints — just mount and torque to spec.

Does the Echelon 4.0C use the same magazines as the full-size Echelon?

No. The 4.0C uses proprietary 15-round compact magazines. The full-size Echelon uses 17- or 20-round magazines and will not fit the 4.0C grip frame.

Can I install a manual safety on the Echelon 4.0C?

Yes. The frame has a molded pocket for a manual safety, and Springfield Armory offers a factory safety kit. It requires a small frame modification (removing a tab), but it’s a straightforward job if you’re comfortable with basic gunsmithing.

What holsters fit the Echelon 4.0C?

Holster support is growing. Companies like Tier 1 Concealed, Vedder Holsters, and Bravo Concealment offer IWB and AIWB options specifically for the 4.0C. Always confirm the holster is molded for the 4.0C — the full-size Echelon holster will not retain the compact version properly.
