About this product

The Taurus TX22 FRT trigger is a forced reset trigger built for Taurus's popular .22 LR rimfire pistol, and it swaps in for the factory trigger to shorten the gap between shots. A forced reset trigger resets itself forward as the slide cycles instead of relying on your finger to release and reset the sear — the pistol still fires exactly one round per pull, every pull, and stays fully semi-automatic the whole time. Because the TX22 has a light slide and almost no recoil to fight, it's one of the smoother rimfire platforms to feel the difference on.

What is it used for?

It's a drop-in trigger upgrade for TX22 owners who want a faster, more consistent reset for competition, plinking, or general range work. The stainless steel shoe and bar replace the factory polymer trigger assembly and use the same factory pins, so there's no frame machining involved. Most owners notice a shorter, more positive reset they can feel and hear within the first magazine. It's a mechanical trigger swap, not a change to how the pistol fires — one round leaves the barrel for every pull, before and after installation.

What fits it?

This trigger is built for the Taurus TX22 and TX22 Competition, and it covers both Gen 1 and Gen 2 frames. It installs using the factory trigger pins already in your pistol, so no new pins or punches are needed for the swap itself. An optional installation block is sold separately to hold the frame square while you work, and it's worth adding if you don't already have a stable way to brace the frame during the swap — it makes the difference between a clean installation and a frustrating one.

What ammunition does it need?

Standard-velocity and high-velocity .22 LR loads cycle this trigger the way it's meant to run. Subsonic ammunition is the one thing to watch for: it doesn't always drive the slide with enough force for a clean, repeatable reset, so if you shoot mostly subsonics through a suppressed TX22, expect some inconsistency in how the reset feels from shot to shot.

How does it compare to a normal trigger swap?

A standard aftermarket trigger changes pull weight or takes up slack differently, but it still depends on your finger coming fully off the trigger to reset the sear. This trigger uses the slide's own cycling to push itself back into reset position, which is what shortens the time between shots. It's a different category of part from a flat-faced or lightened trigger — this is about reset speed, not pull weight or trigger feel.

Does it work in California?

No. Forced reset triggers are restricted in several states, and California is one of them, so this is not a part we can ship to a California address. If you're not sure how your home state treats FRTs, read up on California gun laws before ordering, and double check your own state's statute too, since the list of restricted states keeps growing.

Who is this not for?

Skip it if you run your TX22 mostly with subsonic .22 LR through a can, since the lower slide velocity works against a clean reset. It's also not the part to reach for if what you actually want is a lighter trigger pull — this is about reset timing, not pull weight, and the factory pull feel carries over. And it's a non-starter anywhere forced reset triggers are restricted, California included.

Is it worth $112.50?

For a TX22 owner who shoots enough volume to actually notice reset time, yes — this comes from Taurus itself as a factory-pin drop-in, not a third-party clone part, and the TX22's soft-shooting nature makes it one of the better rimfire hosts for this kind of trigger. Budget a little extra for the installation block if you want the first swap to go smoothly rather than fighting the frame with hand tools.

Not available in California

California classifies forced-reset triggers as multiburst trigger activators under Penal Code sections 16930 and 32900. They cannot be sold, shipped or possessed in California, and this remains the case regardless of the current federal position. We cannot ship this item to a California address. Buyers in other states are responsible for confirming their own state and local law before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

Does installing this trigger make the TX22 fully automatic?
No. The TX22 stays semi-automatic before and after installation — one round fires for each separate pull of the trigger. The trigger only changes how the reset happens, not the pistol's firing cycle.
Do I need gunsmithing experience to install it?
Basic mechanical aptitude and the factory pins are enough for most owners, but the frame needs to stay square while the pins come out and go back in. The optional installation block, sold separately, makes this much easier if it's your first trigger swap.
Will this work with a threaded barrel and suppressor?
It can, but expect the reset to feel less consistent with subsonic loads, since those don't always cycle the slide hard enough. Supersonic or standard-velocity ammo through the same suppressed setup runs more reliably.
Can I go back to the factory trigger later?
Yes, the swap is reversible — the factory trigger assembly comes back out with the same pins if you decide you want the stock setup again.
Does this affect the pistol's California handgun roster status?
This is an aftermarket internal part, not a roster question, but it's moot for California buyers either way since forced reset triggers are restricted in-state and we don't ship this part to CA addresses.
